SITE: BANK HEY STEPS, CLIENT: GALLIFORD TRY
Bank Hey Steps Blackpool are located in the town centre, at the side Of the well known Coral Island amusement centre and the Famous Sands Resort night club.
The steps were constructed from heavily reinforced concrete and stood 24 metres (80ft) high. Being only 6metres from Coral island and Connected to the Sands Venue made the task of demolishing the structure a practically challenging one. To add to the complications involved. The lower section of 1 staircase had to be left in situ as a fire escape for the Sands Venue. Because of the traffic management and amount of pedestrian traffic in the surrounding area, HDPH delivered all heavy machinery out of normal working hours.
Specialist crane hire was used to reduce some of the structure. Whist a High Reach Excavator fitter with a rotating pulveriser was used for the main works.
Working around other contractors and the need to site lifting equipment out in the road meant part of the works required night time working in order to complete the contract.
Overhead tram cables and Illuminations also had to be taken down to enable the crane and high reach machines working space.
Around 100 tonnes of sand was placed as protection on the footpath to protect underground services and prevent vibration from falling rubble.
Crash deck scaffolding was erected to protect the stairs which were to remain and the platform for the fire exit to the night club.
Small remote Brokk demolition rigs were used to demolish parts of the structure.
The materials from the demolition were all 100% recycled, the concrete was crushed on site down to 35mm aggregate and re used for other works on the promenade and Blackpool festival headland works.
The works were completed within budget Hancock also completed extra works for the client in the form of New hand railing and tipper hire for other parts of the main contract.
SITE: JOHN O GAUNT PUBLIC HOUSE, CLIENT: VMC DEVELOPMENTS
HDPH have recently completed the demolition and site clearance of the former John O gaunt Public House.
The site was to be cleared for the re development with new housing being erected on the site.
The building was in close proximity to neighbouring occupied houses so noise and disruption had to be a considered and working hours chosen accordingly.
The building was demolished using a 22 ton excavator fitted with a selecta grab for processing and sorting materials. The building was systematically demolished with all arisings being processed at the same time
Over 90% of the materials were recycled and the project completed ahead of schedule.
THE DANE MILL – ROCHDALE
The Dane Mill in Rochdale had been redundant for some years and been subjected to vandalism and fire.
The damage caused to the property was so extensive that the building had partially collapsed, the roof was completely gone and the property unsafe to enter.
Closing just half the road and implementing traffic management, HDPH used a Samsung high reach demolition rig to reduce the mill to a safe single story over the course of a week end.
The High reach was delivered into site on Friday morning and begun work on making the building safe immediately. By Saturday evening the Mill had been reduced to a single story high building in a safe condition.
The demolition works were made more complex due to the neighbouring industrial units at one end of the mill, and a row of occupied terraced houses directly opposite.
All works were completed within the contract timescales and without any disruption to neighbouring residents.
FORMER DOME NIGHT CLUB – CLIENT: ASKAM CONSTRUCTION
HDPH have recently completed the demolition and site clearance of the former Dome Night Club on Morecambe Sea Front.
The contract involved complete demolition, excavation of foundations, crushing of hardcore and levelling of site to for a new car park.
During the works Hancock’s used a 24 meter high reach demolition machine and two 20 ton excavators fitted with various attachments for processing
The contract was completed on time and within budget. Over 95% of the materials were recycled reducing the effect of landfill waste on the environment.
KIDDS TRANSPORT DEMOLITION
Hancocks have been awarded the contract of demolishing the old Kidds Transport Builings. The buildings are brick and concrete built around a steelstructure and are very strong due to their construction in the war years . The buildings can be dated back to world war one and are over 90 feet tall.
Because of the complicated nature of the work demolition will take place over a two month period. All materials will be recycled for re use where possible. On site we will have hot cutting and 1 x 30 ton excavator and 2 x 24 ton excavators and various other bits of plant including loading shovels and crushers as well as plenty of manpower.
CRANE DEMOLITION HEYSHAM PORT
Hancocks have been awarded the contract for demolishing the the port of Heysham Cranes. The cranes themselves are over 100 feet high and work was carefully project managed; the cranes are dock side on a working port and care was need, any debris falling into the dock would mean closure of the port to all Irish shipping traffic whilst it was removed.
The work was completed in two weeks. All materials were recycled and the work used hot cutting and cranes.
RIVERDANCE CLEANUP CONTRACT
We are pleased to announce that Hancock’s Group has secured the contract to cut up the stricken vessel Riverdance.
Preparations on the project are underway and the cutting up of the vessel will begin shortly
JAMIE HANCOCK, OF HANCOCK’S, SAID:
“At this moment in time we are currently mobilising equipment and working in partnership with the Environment Agency.”
Once on site, the team’s first job will be to clear out the last remaining pieces of cargo before ensuring that any final residues of oil are removed. They will then go to work on dismantling the upper decks of the stricken boat.
The hull will be the final section to be cut up, with each piece being removed from the beach by crane.
During the work anti-pollution measures will be in place to ensure that no substances are spilled on to the beach, which will be returned to its original state at the end of the contract.
